Job/Internship Description

The Innovation and Development Division (IDD) drives the innovation strategy for the Hubs and Operations, and contributes to the Group's transformation. It is responsible for imagining, developing and incubating new solutions until they are brought to market, particularly when it comes to offers with a high technological content (including digital and IT). IDD gathers more than 3,000 employees from 70 nationalities at 60 sites.

How will you CONTRIBUTE and GROW?

Air Liquide manufactures a comprehensive line of membrane products for methane recovery from Biomass sources. Our product portfolio includes the most robust and efficient hollow fiber membranes in the industry. Air Liquide's Biogas Gas group provides solutions for purification to meet export pipeline specifications. Through our global network, Air Liquide offers the most reliable and cost effective gas recovery solutions.

At our Newark location the Process Engineering Intern will have the opportunity to actively participate in the Process Engineering teams in the application areas of Biogas upgrading, Renewable Natural Gas (RNG) system design and other membrane based gas separation projects for internal Air Liquide customers and external "Sale of Equipment" customers.

The candidate will provide process engineering assistance to senior team members, update and standardize standard plant P&IDs, write purchasing specifications for standard equipment and develop and optimize Hysys M&E balances for standard solutions. There may be several opportunities for on-site plant commissioning and system troubleshooting.

Job Duties

  • Serve as a safety role model; promote a high level of safety awareness; adhere to and support the continuous improvement of all safety practices / procedures.

  • Support Project Managers to meet project requirements of communication, coordination, scheduling and budget.

  • Review equipment designs / participate in engineering design reviews including equipment & component data sheets, P&IDs, General Arrangement Drawings, etc.

  • Develop specifications and request for proposal documentation for equipment.

  • Understand overall gas purification and separation process to further understand the purpose of system process equipment and components.

  • Engage with vendors for supply of equipment including technical clarifications, initiating procurement and follow-up.

  • Visit vendor and fabricator workshops for in-process inspections and Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT).

  • Participate in Process Hazard Analyses (PHA) and Haz-Op risk reviews for projects in development.

  • Create project documentation including Operating Manuals.

  • Participate in recurring project update & coordination meetings with customers.

  • Work with Solutions Development team members within active project teams.

  • Work environment is an office environment when not traveling or at vendor sites.

  • Limited travel (expected to be less than 20%) to perform start ups and troubleshooting at new / operating RNG facilities or to perform FATs at vendor sites.

  • While at sites during start up, there may be the need to lift up to 50 pounds, but this is not a requirement.

  • Ability and willingness to wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) while at customer sites, vendor sites and job sites. This may include steel toe boots, Flame Retardant Clothing (FRC), safety glasses, hearing protection, gloves, a personal gas monitor, a hard hat, etc. All PPE is provided by Air Liquide.

Required Competencies

  • BS Chemical or Mechanical Engineering Junior/Senior/Graduate.

  • Demonstrates strong process and operational safety behavior at all times.

  • Demonstrate hands on mechanical skills and knowledge.

  • Ability to work with databases, spreadsheets, SPC, and other computerized tools is required.

  • A self-starter who can maintain effective working relationships with other groups within the company.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills and job professionalism.


Preferred Competencies

  • Prior internship experience.

  • Ability to plan, schedule, organize, prioritize, and coordinate project activities.

  • Ability to understand and work within a regulated environment.

  • Ability to manage multiple projects at one time.

WORKING (Physical) CONDITIONS

  • Work Environment requires PPE and other safety attire, shoes and or glasses

  • Use of Computer (audio/visual equipment)

  • Driving

The candidate must have valid unrestricted employment authorization in the U.S. and must not require visa sponsorship now or in the future.
