Your Role

Collaborating with server and cloud operations leads, the Server Administrator II will be on the forefront of designing and utilizing AWS and Azure cloud hosting solutions for the daily operational administration, management and support of Gensler's public cloud applications and Software as a Service platforms.

**this position is onsite 5 days a week in either our Los Angeles or Oakland, CA office**

What You Will Do

  • Architect, deploy, and manage resilient web applications and services on AWS and Microsoft Azure

  • Keep servers and services up to date with security patches, certificate updates and hotfixes

  • Triage alerts and system anomalies to recommend and collaborate over changes to improve the application infrastructure

  • Suggest improvements based on technology progression, best practices and changing requirements.

  • Deploy and maintain virtual and various hardware platforms, implemented through infrastructure-as-code

  • Support Backup and Disaster Recovery/Replication platforms across on-premises and cloud, performing routine resilience drills

  • Author and implement intermediate to advanced PowerShell scripts

  • Manage and resolve user IT issues in a Tier 1 & 2 capacity

  • Participate in an on-call rotation to respond to and resolve unplanned service outages

  • Collaborate with development teams to deploy infrastructure and tools to support client requirements effectively and reliably

  • Work with Client Success team members to troubleshoot external client issues

  • Collaborate with staff, industry partners, clients and vendors regarding complex issues and facilitate diagnostics, troubleshooting and resolution

  • Create and maintain documentation of systems and environments

  • Leverage a change control system, authoring change requests prior to production implementation

  • Partner with Gensler's Security Operations team to complete client security questionnaires, contribute to the Firm's security goals and provide supporting documentation for audit

  • Additional tasks as required

Your Qualifications

  • An employee-owned company, Gensler is social, collaborative and entrepreneurial - authority comes from the team, not a given individual. Our top candidate will have strong social and communication skills, a collaborative attitude and demonstrate strong technical acumen.

  • Associates degree in information systems or comparable technical degree, or 5+ years of industry experience is required.

  • Outstanding customer service skills for internal and external clients is required

  • Demonstrably strong written & verbal communication skills in the English language is required.

  • At least one IT certification or equivalent foundational knowledge is preferred

  • Demonstrable understanding of computing technologies such as LAN, WLAN, DMZ, inter-network firewalling, DNS, DHCP and Active Directory is required

  • Candidate can write scripts or compiled programs using any two languages such as Python, BASH/Shell, Java, Perl, Go, as well as Powershell

  • Thorough understanding of virtualization technologies, Windows and MacOS operating systems, general server, network, and security practices and principles

  • Thorough understanding and ability to troubleshoot and resolve issues with both Windows and Apple Mac platforms, including Windows 10 & 11, MacOS 11.0 Big Sur & 12.0 Monterey

  • Demonstrable understanding of public cloud hosting

  • Strong Documentation, systems, and code analysis skills

  • Security-conscious thinking and practice with ability to give examples

  • Self-starter mentality, strong work ethic, ability to multitask and adapt to rapidly changing technologies.

**If the position is located in Los Angeles, CA; the base salary will be estimated between $82k-$92k plus bonuses and benefits and contingent upon relevant experience.

**If the position is located in Oakland, CA; the base salary will be estimated between $95k-$105k plus bonuses and benefits and contingent upon relevant experience.
