Pay Information: The salary range for this position is (CA): $66,560-$67,891

Note that American Red Cross salaries are aligned to the specific geographic location in which the work is primarily performed. Other factors that may be used to determine your actual salary may include your specific skills, how many years of experience you have and comparison to other employees already in this role.

Standard Schedule: 3 days in the office, 2 work from home / in the community, and flexibility evenings and weekends for crisis response and community events as needed

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

We are currently seeking a Disaster Workforce Engagement Specialist to support the Los Angeles Region of the American Red Cross Disaster Cycle Services Department. This position will have a variable work schedule with some weekends and evenings required during times of disaster. Travel within the region is required.

Location: Los Angeles, California

This position will:
* Provide functional support to build, sustain, and energize the disaster workforce.
* Create and maintain a foundation of continuous and robust volunteer engagement using established processes and collaborating with Volunteer Services staff.
* Collaborate with regional functional leads to support capacity building in regional and national readiness targets and capacity to carry out the day-to-day mission.
* Support the implementation of Disaster Programs, assist with remote team building of employees and volunteers, and solicit feedback from end customers during steady state as well as operational response periods.
* Provide support, development, and/or leadership guidance to all volunteers.
* Contribute to a culture of collaboration, learning, and mutual aid between the employee and volunteer workforces.
* Perform all duties and responsibilities in compliance with standard operating procedures and other applicable Federal, State, and local regulations.

WHERE YOUR CAREER IS A FORCE GOOD

1. Empower Volunteers: Facilitate and support a volunteer team responsible for the implementation of volunteer-led disaster cycle services programming, or specific functional activities throughout the assigned geographic area. Ensure disaster cycle services are delivered in a rapid, accessible, and equitable manner to meet the urgent, disaster-caused needs of our clients, with a focus on frontline communities.

2. Support the Program Assist with the successful implementation of either specific disaster cycle services program activities, or a specific disaster cycle services function within an assigned geographic area Monitor, collect and analyze business data to improve services to individuals and communities. Ensure compliance with data protection and privacy regulations while managing sensitive disaster-related information. Work at the direction of a Disaster program supervisor to create and improve plans for successfully meeting disaster cycle services programmatic vision. Provide feedback to support the continuous improvement process.

3. Mission Capacity Building: Engage disaster volunteers who are the primary workforce, and representative of the communities they serve. Support the development of Disaster Leadership Volunteers, including volunteer partners, to meet specific responsibilities as part of their work in disaster readiness, preparedness, response, and recovery, or specific functional tasks. This includes, but is not limited to, training, coaching, delegating, coordinating, and evaluating performance to ensure a well-qualified and empowered team. Collaborate closely with Disaster Workforce Engagement team.

4. Engage Community: Support local efforts to mobilize communities and engage partners to prepare for, respond to, and recover from disasters and emergencies. Participate in community engagement activities alongside Disaster Program management, chapter leadership, community volunteer leaders, and all other business lines to ensure the Red Cross is the most trusted disaster services provider.

5. Manage in a Matrix: Implement plans to meet assigned targets for volunteer engagement and volunteer-led Disaster Action Team response to local home fires or support specific function tasks within assigned geographic area. Work at the direction of assigned supervisor.

6. Know Your Communities: Act as the local point of contact for partners. Partner with local organizations supporting frontline communities and community resiliency before, during and after disasters. These include community-based and faith-based organizations supporting disaster services, key emergency management and government entities, and other leaders in the field of disaster services.

7. Ready to Respond: Participate in disaster response operations in the region in alignment with the Disaster Cycle Services Concept of Operations, upon completion of training requirements. Deploy and participate in operations outside of home region. Perform all assigned responsibilities under "grey sky" requirements with potential for deployment as directed.

  • Participate in regional volunteer workforce planning.
  • Support functional leads and supervisors in their role of engaging the volunteer workforce aligned with the Volunteer Recruitment and Engagement Cycle.
  • Engage volunteers as equal team members with specific responsibilities.
  • Assist with the training and skill development of disaster volunteers to enable mission delivery.
  • Strive to achieve a diverse workforce representative of the communities served by the region.
  • Support the implementation of a targeted volunteer engagement plan.
  • Manage assigned program goals, objectives, policies, and procedures in alignment with established metrics.
  • Evaluate and report on the capacity and effectiveness of programs and services and prepare recommendations for continuous improvement.
  • Support initiation of workforce care section on disaster relief operations and with building a workforce team.
  • Participate in a role commensurate with G/A/P on larger operations regionally, divisionally, or nationwide.

WHAT YOU NEED TO SUCCEED

Education: Bachelor's degree required.

Experience: Minimum 3 years of experience with social services or service/program delivery, or equivalent combination of education and related experience required.

Management Experience:

Skills & Abilities Ability to coordinate staff and volunteer activities. Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills. Develop project plans & budgets. Demonstrate in-depth knowledge of program or service, ability to create presentations and training modules, and strategies to achieve organizational goals. Demonstrated analytical and decision- making skills to interpret program trends, results, formulate recommendations, and develop creative processes for continuous program or service improvements. Proven track record of collaboration with diverse groups and individuals, managing multiple priorities, facilitation, problem solving, marketing, leadership, and partnership management. Additionally, this position requires ability for planning, public speaking, project management and process improvement. Individual must be customer oriented, organized, and able to operate with an orientation toward solutions with an external focus, and team orientation. Intermediate level proficiency with MS Office software, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook. Familiarity with federal, state, and local employment laws. Ability to work outside of regular duty hours including nights and weekends.
Must be able to perform all assigned responsibilities under "grey sky" requirements. Ability to work in a matrixed environment and on a team.

Travel: Travel may be required. A current, valid driver's license with good driving record is required.
