The Prospect Development team strives to provide strategic, scalable, and actionable intelligence to deepen the university's essential relationships with its family of faculty, students, alumni, parents, staff and friends. Through strategic, data-driven intelligence, proven research methodologies, and best-in-class service to our Development community, the Prospect Development team collaborates with its development partners in their goal to provide the best philanthropic life cycle experience for each individual donor as well as robust pipeline development. From portfolio enhancement and broad-based analysis to identify macroscopic prospecting and institution centric trends, to personalized research providing critical contextual intelligence for development officers, the Prospect Development team seeks to strengthen the prospect pipeline and have a positive impact on fundraising goals for our partners.
Applies skills and experience as a seasoned professional to produce prospect research projects of medium size and complexity. Provides fundraisers and others with strategic information and tools to successfully build relationships with donors. Under the direction of the Senior Director, Prospect Development, the Assistant Director, Prospect Research will provide specialized, high quality prospect research and analysis using a variety of sources and strategies, to provide accurate, timely, and strategic information to fundraising staff on prospective donors to University Advancement with emphasis on Major Gift Prospects for Development. The Assistant Director will create prospect profiles and reports on potential donors through the use of electronic resources and printed reference materials and will provide extensive analysis and data in reports, including an evaluation of results and recommendations for cultivation strategies. They will liaise and strategize with assigned portfolio of Development Officers to assess information needs and effectiveness of research. The incumbent is expected to utilize a wide range of resources for research, including printed materials, online databases, community resources, existing files and records, and networking opportunities. Incumbent will also be expected to participate in professional development activities to stay abreast of current trends and practices in the field of prospect research. Proven ability to perform duties with excellent customer service and teamwork is required.

The expected pay range for this recruitment is $74,000.00 - $80,000.00 (Annual Salary). The Full Salary Range for the salary grade this position is assigned to is $73,900.00 - $133,700.00 (Annual Salary).
Required:
  • 3-5 years of progressively more in-depth experience in prospect research, development, fundraising, market research and /or relevant experience.
  • Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.
  • Thorough knowledge of prospect research techniques, tools and data analysis.
  • Thorough knowledge of confidentiality, regulatory and university policies governing research activities.
  • Strong technical skills to utilize and manipulate database, biographical, financial and other research systems and tools.
  • Ability to extract information and generate reports from complex databases.
  • Familiarity with research data interpretation such as SEC, Real Estate and Compensation documentation.
  • Proven ability to manage a project through to completion while performing a wide variety of tasks, adapting to changing priorities, deadlines and directions. Interpersonal skills to build deep professional relationships with peers, team members and management.
  • Strong skills to evaluate issues and identify solutions within defined procedures and policies.
  • Proven ability to address problems and suggest solutions through critical thinking processes.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills to explain technical concepts and articulate reasoning behind analyses and recommendations.
  • Active listening skills to understand varying opinions and receive feedback.
  • Experience in use of software applications; Microsoft Suite, Teams, Word and Excel, and demonstrated experience using major online in-house databases in a fundraising environment, preferably at a University or Health System.
  • Experience creating precise, detailed, and analytical reports from a large volume of research.
  • Proven attention to detail in written work and database maintenance.
  • Comfortable with technology, learning new tools and adapting to innovative solutions to Prospect Development processes.
Preferred:
  • Knowledge of research systems, preferably in a University fundraising environment.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of CoreLogic, Dun & Bradstreet/Business Databases, Lexis Nexis Development Professional and other electronic resources.
  • Understanding of and competency with the Association of Professional Researchers for Advancement (APRA) Body of Knowledge Skill Sets in Prospect Research.

Special Conditions Required:
Must be comfortable working on computers actively 7-8 hours daily
