OUR MISSION STATEMENT
EVERY DAY, WE GRAB PEOPLE EVERYWHERE WITH OUR ENTERTAINING TAKE ON LIFE

As part of its commitment to providing educational resources, encouraging community service, and promoting awareness, A&E Television Networks is involved in several initiatives designed to make lasting contributions on national, state, and local levels.

A&E: INTERVENTION TOWN HALL MEETINGS
As part of its Lives That Make a Difference initiative, A&E raises awareness on issues related to addiction through its series of town hall meetings. Inspired by the television series Intervention™, these special events bring together experts, business and community leaders, and others interested in the subject matter to talk about social problems, such as drug abuse, and what can be done to solve them. These thought-provoking meetings were developed through an alliance between A&E, Partnership for a Drug-Free America™, local cable companies, government officials, and drug abuse councils.

SAVE OUR HISTORY
The History Channel® works to advance history education and preservation with its Save Our History (SOH) program. SOH provides information and educational resources for schools, preservation organizations and historical societies, and community members. These useful materials include an educator's manual, how-to guides, lesson plans, and volunteer guidelines.

THE HISTORY CHANNEL: VISUALIZING HISTORY
Another exciting educational initiative from The History Channel®, the Visualizing History Project assists historic sites and museums in bringing the past to life. The History Channel® produces short videos on important events and places for many of the nation's most prestigious sites and institutions, including Ellis Island, Pearl Harbor, and the National Museum of American History.

BIOGRAPHY PROJECT FOR SCHOOLS
The Biography Channel is working with the U.S. Conference of Mayors and the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards on the Biography® Project for Schools which is designed to support social studies and civics instruction in junior and senior high schools. This program provides teachers with such educational materials as an activity booklet and teacher's guide to help them incorporate the study of important individuals into their curriculum. This project gives teachers and students across the country the opportunity to explore the lives of those who have made an impact on our world.

THE HISTORY CHANNEL EN ESPAÑOL: HISPANIC HERITAGE CELEBRATION
As the only member of the Cable in the Classroom organization to provide free Spanish language teaching materials, The History Channel en español™ takes its commitment to education and the Latino community very seriously. To celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month, The History Channel en español™ holds national and local poster contests. The winners are selected for the best depictions of Latino culture and prizes include $2,000 in scholarships.

A&E AND THE HISTORY CHANNEL CLASSROOM
The Emmy® Award-winning Education Department of AETN reflects our company's commitment to reinvesting in our national community through education. Our staff of educators and historians is dedicated to the development of outstanding educational materials that build students' reading, writing, and critical thinking skills. The Idea Book for Educators is the biannual teacher's magazine created by the Education Department at A&E Television Networks and mailed to 220,000 teachers nationwide. The Idea Book, which is provided to teachers and parents at no cost, includes Teacher's Guides for programs featured during our commercial-free "Classroom" time slot and a printed version of the Classroom Calendar, which features air dates, program information, and copyright guidelines. The A&E and The History Channel Classroom websites are also a valuable resource for teachers who use the sites to access teacher's guides, watch streaming video with their classes or find our more about our student and educator contests.
